Scripture: 1 Samuel 25-27, Psalms 85
Have you ever been offended or had unkind words spoken to you? It’s not a great feeling. The bigger question is how do you respond when this happens? In 1 Samuel 25, we see the story of Abigail, a woman of remarkable wisdom and courage. When her husband, Nabal, insults David and puts their household in danger, Abigail acts swiftly and decisively. Rather than reacting in anger or fear, she chooses to take responsibility for the situation, offering David the provisions he needs and seeking peace. Her actions remind us that sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is act with wisdom and humility, rather than letting conflict escalate. She trusted God’s timing, saving her household from destruction.
Abigail’s bold approach teaches us the importance of speaking truth with grace. In a world where it’s often easier to avoid hard conversations or take sides, Abigail’s example challenges us to stand in the gap, speaking words of reconciliation rather than division. Psalm 85:10 says, “Faithful love and truth will join together; righteousness and peace will embrace.”
Blessing: May we, too, have the courage to act wisely in challenging situations, always seeking peace and trusting that God will guide us when we follow His lead.
