Scripture: Judges 9-12, Psalm 73
Focus Reading: Judges 11:1-12:7
God said, “John you never would have read this story if it weren’t for this series, “God’s Story, Our Story.” I know, Father. Thank You!
Jephtha was born to a harlot. His half-brothers cast him out of their hometown. He became a “Mighty Warrior” in another land. Later his hometown was under attack. Their leaders asked if he’d return and become their general. Then God chose Jephthah to be a leader, a Judge. God usually uses “the least of these to get to most of them.”
Before going into battle, Jephthah made a vow with God. It was a rash and rushed decision. God fulfilled his half. But for Jephthah to fulfill his, it would bring him to his knees and break his heart. Please read the story. After reading it, I’m trying not to say, “Father if you, then I will.” Instead, I’m saying, “because you are, then I will!”
Prayer: Father, thanks for this journey with Jesus through the Word. As of 2/5/25, I’m in Leviticus, and you’ve helped me through chapters 1-20. Please help me finish the last 7. I know it’s there for us to grow, Lord. People vacation to the mountains, the beach, and around the world. It’s all spectacular. But there is no greater journey than to walk beside you. Help us to read, study, absorb, and live it. Then use us. The least. Amen.
