Reflection Questions
Begin with reading Psalm 85. Choose one verse to meditate on for a couple minutes.
This was Child Dedication Sunday. Share your experience and understanding of the role that child dedication plays in the life of a person, family and church.
Thinking about the overall storyline of scripture so far, how does Hannah’s experience in 1 Samuel 1:21-28 help us understand GodStory and OurStory?
What stands out to you about Hannah’s dedication prayer in 1 Samuel 2:1-10? How does the character and story of Jesus connect with this dedication prayer?
Read about Samuel’s first experience of hearing God (1 Samuel 3:1-10). What does this tell us about God’s perspective on and purpose for children?
What was your first experience of hearing God or sensing that he was real? What are ways that we can be like Eli and help those young in life or young in faith to listen to God?
Both Samuel and John the Baptist in the New Testament came as prophets to point their people to put their trust in God. Christians are called to do the same. What are ways that we can point our families, friends and coworkers to God?
Close in prayer. If you have dedicated a child, marriage or career to God, take a moment to affirm your dedication and express trust in God. If you have someone in your life that needs pointed to God, ask God for courage to do so.
