Scripture: 1 Samuel 15-17, Psalm 82
GodStory:
The Bible says Saul was “small” in his own eyes. Once king, Saul cared more about what others thought than what God wanted. God decided it was a shepherd, David’s, turn as king. David was humble and had strong faith in God. One day, before becoming king, David brought food to Israelite soldiers at war with the Philistines. He saw the giant, Goliath, shouting against them! Soldiers of Israel and Judah were scared. Not David! He remembered God helped him fight a lion and bear to save his sheep. He trusted God to help him fight Goliath to save Israel and Judah. With God, David defeated Goliath using a stone! David’s faith inspired the army of Israel and Judah, who chased the Philistines away.
OurStory:
With God, we can be brave to do the right thing, like David. When that’s hard, like it was for the soldiers, we can look to others of strong faith for courage too.
Family Prayer:
Dear God, nothing is too big for You! When we need to be brave to do the right thing, please remind us of times you helped us before and show us faithful people to look to for contagious courage.
