Christmas Day
Family Devotional – Luke 2:1-20
Merry Merry Christmas!
The first Christmas gift was not a bike or a toy or a sweater wrapped in paper and under a Christmas tree, but a baby “wrapped in cloth and placed in a manger.”
This was the Best. Gift. Ever.
No one had this Gift on their wish list, but this gift fulfilled all the wishes of all people of all time. This Gift was one that “will cause great joy for all the people.”
Yeah, if this Gift had a Gift Tag, it would read
“To: All the People
Love: God.”
The angels said to the shepherds that night that “a Savior has been born to you.” This Gift was not for a momentary burst of joy but an eternal peace with God.
Jesus, the Son of God, was born as the Gift to the whole world. God, the Generous Father, is the Giver of all that is good, and His best Gift was His Son. Jesus grew up and lived a life of a Gift and died on the cross as a Gift. We did not ask for it or deserve this Gift, but God so loved us He gave Him for us.
And what’s wild is this: you are a gift too! God has gifted you to bless the world. The way that Mary carried the Gift and the shepherds ran around telling everybody about the Gift, you have been sent to carry the Gift and share Him with others.
On this Christmas Day, read Luke 2:1-20 aloud.
Ponder like Mary. What’s your favorite part of this story? Take a second to imagine it in your mind, then take a second to treasure it in your heart, then say it aloud.
Share like the shepherds. They told people about the gift. Give someone a call or text and say something like, “Merry Christmas! Jesus is the best gift, and you’re a pretty great gift too!”
Merry Christmas!
